Phones 4 U and Carphone Warehouse have revealed mid-August release dates for the new BlackBerry 9900 RIM handset.

Phones 4 U said it will begin selling the BlackBerry 9900 on August 19 free on a £35 per month contract with a “range of networks”. Customers can already pre-order the 9900 from the Phones 4 U website on both Orange and Vodafone.

The retailer said it also plans to sell the two other devices from BlackBerry’s new handset range, the BlackBerry Torch 9860 and BlackBerry Torch 9810, but has not revealed pricing or availability.

Phones 4U claims to be the largest retailer of BlackBerry handsets per store in Europe.

Carphone Warehouse is offering the 9900 on pre order and claims it expects to deliver the phones on the 12 August.

A SIM only 9900 costs £499 on the Carphone Warehouse website, or free on contracts starting at £31.

Carphone Warehouse UK managing director Matt Stringer said: “This smartphone has really raised the bar when it comes to the much-loved BlackBerry. It has a wealth of advanced features, which I’m sure will make this smartphone appeal to more than just the traditional business user.”

RIM has today (August 3) unveiled five new handsets which will be the first to run the firm’s new BlackBerry 7 OS operating system.
